The Honey Exchange
A place to enjoy honey, learn about the bees that make it, and experience high-quality service.

The Honey Exchange is just about one of the cutest stores you can visit in Portland; tucked away in the cozy Deering neighborhood, you’ll find one of the best places to taste, learn, and explore all there is to know about honey and beekeeping! Founded by the Gaven family, The Honey Exchange is governed by a selfless principle: “life is service.” The family patriarch, Phil, started keeping honeybees in 2008 on a whim, but slowly fell in love with the ancient practice of beekeeping as he learned more about the art and history of tending to bees and got more connected with schools, veteran apiarists, and hopeful beekeepers alike! Eventually, Phil and the rest of the family, wife Meghan and daughters Maura and Caitlin opened the storefront in 2011 to serve as a one-stop shop and celebration of all things honey!
We highly recommend you pay The Honey Exchange a visit and shop from their expertly curated array of products, courtesy of Meghan. And while you’re there, you can take a look at their demonstration hive, enjoy the stunning array of artworks done by Maura & Caitlin, and chat with Phil about the nuts and bolts of beekeeping! And if you live in the area, there’s a chance you might encounter Phil out and about in the community, helping to build and maintain urban hives and educate local schoolchildren.
