Happy goats make delicious milk at a community-centric family farm.

Pumpkin Vine Family Farm

Pumpkin Vine Family Farm is owned and operated by Kelly Payson-Roopchand and Anil Roopchand in Somerville and is the place to be if you’re interested in high-quality local goat milk products. Every Sunday, Pumpkin Vine opens one of their cozy barns to the public for a community farmers’ market. The Payson-Roopchands are farming experts! Having both studied agriculture extensively at the graduate level, the pair decided to put their skills to practical use when they moved to Maine almost two decades ago. With Kelly’s expertise in agricultural science and Anil’s skill with animals, they easily held up the property’s legacy as a homestead, which dates all the way back to the early 1800s! Soon though, the pair saw the need for Pumpkin Vine to become a community space for the small town of Somerville to gather around. Today, they host plenty of delightful events in addition to their usual Sunday markets from musical performances to meet-and-greets with the goats, there’s plenty of fun to be had around the farm.

How can you support Pumpkin Vine? The solution is easy and delicious: buy their milk, yogurt, and cheese directly from the source! The brains behind their creative, meticulously crafted dairy deliciousness is Kelly, whose perfectionism for cheesemaking pushed Pandora to tie for second place in its category in the 2024 Maine Cheese Competition with Maine cheese powerhouse Pineland Farms. Not bad at all!
