Freedom's Edge Cider
Cider done right; better apples make better cider in the heart of Maine.

Founded by two brother-in-laws, Ned Ervin and Andy Kaplan, Freedom's Edge aims to bring Maine's historic cider culture back! Most folks don’t know this, but American cider was an incredibly New England industry that boomed, was buried, and is now coming back! Essentially, European settlers in America found that the grains and grapes used to make beer or wine didn't grow so well, but apples did, and lo and behold, there was LOTS of cider. It was the most popular beverage in the colonies for both adults and children alike! However, the cider boom came crashing to a halt when prohibition hit - and prohibition hit Maine HARD, did you know that we had the longest prohibition period of all the states in the union? As a result, many cider apple orchards were either left fallow or even burned down in some cases! Truly, the cider industry has been in hibernation until very recent history, and the team at Freedom's Edge had a part to play in that!
Back in 2018, Ned and Andy started researching the history of cider in New England and putting together their own recipes in Andy's garage. Soon, they had something special and delicious enough to sell to local pubs, and when the market proved there was enough demand, they planted their own orchard and opened their tasting room in Albion. Something great about Freedom's Edge is they're really good at balancing both the New England tradition of drier, funky ciders and a more friendly, sweeter flavor profile.
