Fox Family Potato Chips
A family-run chip company with humble beginnings using Maine russet potatoes.

Maine locals might recognize the Fox Family brand from their distinctive, shiny silver bags that grace the shelves of most grocery stores in this state. But despite their ubiquity, these chips had a very humble beginning. Just across the road from the chip factory in Aroostook county, there’s a small town gas station and convenience store: the Mapleton One Stop. That’s where founder Rhett Fox was working when he invented the famous Fox Family potato chip! He took one of Aroostook county’s famous potatoes to the deli slicer and discovered something delicious. For the longest time, Rhett and his family were hand frying every day to meet the demand! Nowadays, the process is well-automated and family friend Double G Farms supplies all the potatoes for the operation, churning out 300 lbs an hour!
The Fox family humility is a running theme throughout the company - the company’s logo is a drawing by the children in the family and the eye-catching silver bags are actually the default color from the bag factory. You can find Fox Family chips at most retailers in Maine and at select few stores in the greater New England states. You can visit https://www.foxfamilychips.com/ to learn more, but the easiest way is to keep an eye out for those shiny silver bags throughout your travels!
