Blue Ox Malthouse
Locally grown grains traditionally floor-malted for Maine craft beer and beyond!

Did you know that Blue Ox Malthouse is the largest floor malthouse in the Americas? The malt operation began when founder, Joel Alex, saw a need to bridge the gap between brewers and farmers. He noticed that potato farmers up in Aroostook county frequently cycled in grain between their potato crops, so he encouraged these farmers to send this grain that would otherwise be re-sown over to Blue Ox Malthouse to be made into malt for craft brewers in New England and beyond! Nowadays, the folks at Blue Ox can turn over about a million pounds of malt a year.
If you’re drinking a beer brewed in Maine, there’s a good chance you’re drinking something that Blue Ox Malthouse had a hand in. The next time you’re enjoying your usual Maine-made brew, think of all the hard work that went into your glass!
