Waterville

Every Thursday from April to Thanksgiving, the Downtown Waterville Farmers’ Market fills the Riverwalk at Waterville’s Head of Falls. A bevy of vendors offer a wide range of locally grown and produced items, from artisanal cheeses to handmade wrought iron decor. If you can’t make the market, there are plenty of other producers that sell their products right off their farms! Searching for a sweet treat? There's a Gifford's Ice Cream outpost right on Silver St. stocked with all their tasty frozen treats!

Just around the corner in Sidney, you can drop by Arkeo farm, serving up an eclectic mix of services. They raise goats and chickens for both meat and dairy, plus a mobile pizza kitchen (ask about their catering options!) and adorable Rottweiler puppies! If you want to keep the cheese train running, pop over to Misty Brook Farm in Albion for organic milk, beef, grains, lamb, and pork. And just north of downtown Waterville is Chestnut Hill Farm in Fairfield. They specialize in Christmas trees for the holiday season, but their self-serve farm store is also stocked with plenty of local goodies from around Maine! Build yourself a picnic by visiting one, or all.

Then head to Stone Tree Farm & Cidery (Unity) to find cider to wash it down with it. Looking for something more structured? Explore the region’s milling heritage with a tour of the Somerset Grist Mill in Skowhegan, also home to Maine Grains and its fantastic café, The Miller’s Table. Grab a pizza, or perhaps a loaf of bread -- then head next door to Crooked Face Creamery and find a cheese to go with it! To cap off your visit with a great date night, grab dinner at Opa right on Main St. in Waterville, and then walk over to the Waterville Opera House for great community theater, a concert, or a comedy show!
