Pittsfield
Spring in Maine is all about maple sugaring season, and there’s no better way to celebrate than with a visit to Eureka Farms in Palmyra. If you’re lucky enough to visit during Maine Maple Sunday Weekend (the fourth weekend in March), you’ll be treated to maple-making demonstrations, food vendors, and delicious maple treats (Maple donuts! Maple cotton candy! Maple kettle corn!). But even if you miss the festivities, their self-service farm stand is always stocked with maple syrup, heritage beans, and other local goodies - it's one of our favorite stops in the area.
Just around the corner in Pittsfield, Balfour Farm is a dream stop for cheese lovers. Their self-service Little Cheese Shop is filled with handmade, cave-aged cheeses, and their happy Normande cows are always a delight to see.
Thinking ahead to warmer days? Order seedlings from Snakeroot Organic Farm - a 30- year-old pillar of Maine's organic farming community - and pick them up at the farm. Later in the season, fresh produce is available the same way.
End your day with a nightcap (or a cup of expertly brewed coffee) at Bryant’s Brewing, a cozy lakeside brewery and coffee roastery where the converted garage tasting room feels like something out of a heartwarming sitcom - welcoming, laid-back, and full of character. Prefer wine? Head to Twitchell Garden Kitchen and Winery, where every bottle is made from homegrown or foraged ingredients - pumpkin, wild grapes, and more - for a tasting experience like no other.
