A Winthrop Day Trip

Winthrop is a charming town where you could spend an entire day just hopping from farm stand to farm stand. While appearing humble, it’s a popular commuter town for tourists. This attention from tourists creates a unique little town with plenty of places to spend during a day of entertainment and good eating, while not having to deal with the bustling streets of the state’s coastal communities.

If you’re looking for cheese, you should check out Wholesome Holmstead! This small family establishment makes dairy products with milk they’ve sourced from their own cows. They’re incredibly friendly, and happy to answer any questions you may have. Wholesome Holmstead’s welcoming atmosphere makes it an excellent place to stop, even if it’s just for a quick visit.

Speaking of locally sourced fresh food, Stevenson’s Farm Stand is the perfect option for you. This stand offers fresh produce locally grown in the Winthrop area, giving you a taste of their food culture. The staff ensure that all of the food is clean and in stock, making shopping there a pleasant and easy experience. Stevenson’s Farm Stand is definitely a worthwhile little place to stop and check out.

If you want to enjoy some farm fresh food with live music, Toddy Pond Farm right outside of Winthrop is the place for you. Toddy Pond Farm boasts a menu completely composed of food either grown from their on-site farm, or other farms in the area. Their live musical entertainment is every Friday and Saturday, 7-9 PM. On the off chance you’re looking for a new furry friend, they also have quite a few border collies on their property, and if you check their site, you might be able to adopt one of the puppies!

A very unique store in Winthrop is Pickle’s Potions and Lotions. While the name may sound like it’s a pickle store at first, the name actually comes from the nickname of the founder, Kristin “Pickles” Mutchler. They produce and sell small batch skincare products, and ensure they’re natural and healthy. To do this, they actually source their ingredients from either their own gardens or gardens local to the area.

Looking for a place to enjoy some drinks and unwind from a day of hopping from farm stand to farm stand? Check out Absolem Cider, a cider and microbrew bar. Don’t worry though, they also serve snacks, so you won’t be hungry while you drink. Their ciders brewing process is inspired by old-world wine techniques, as well as foraging, and using wild apples. They also offer a tasting room year round, so customers can experience and learn more about the flavors they offer. It’s a great place to bring a friend or partner and have a nice, chill day enjoying some drinks.

Not necessarily a cider person? That’s not an issue, because only 20 minutes away from Winthrop is Willow’s Awake Winery. The winery produces a small selection of red and white wine, and it all comes directly from the grapes they’ve grown themselves on the property! There’s plenty of seating outside, so you can enjoy a nice drink and enjoy the scenery and weather.
